Education and livelihoods HARO has already supported

Schools, training and start-up capital from HARO's field record.

  1. 2012Two-day First Aid Training for secondary schools at the University of Somalia in Mogadishu — more than 60 Banadir high-school students taught by doctors.
  2. 2013Relief for more than 200 blind and vision-impaired families in Wadajir, including students of Al-Nuur, Mogadishu’s school for the blind.
  3. 2014A month of running costs for the School of the Blind and Visually Impaired in Puntland, where 170+ students learn with a Braille printing machine.
  4. 2018Kismayo microfinance program trained 50 women caring for orphans and funded each with start-up business capital — donated by Somali women in Seattle and matched by HARO.
  5. 2020Youth Employment Initiative launched: apprenticeships, traineeships, start-up grants and job placements for a country where over 70% of people are under 30.
  6. 2023HARO team visit to Gambool High School — the classrooms behind the Scholarship Fund.
  7. 2024Capacity-building training on organizational leadership and legal frameworks held in Jigjiga, Ethiopia.
